Charles Bland has 30 years experience in civil litigation, with primary emphasis on employment law, unfair competition, trade secrets, defamation and general  business litigation.  He has represented major commercial airlines, aerospace corporations, insurance companies, financial institutions, and other registered securities entities.  In addition to litigating in state and federal courts, Mr. Bland arbitrates before the American Arbitration Association (AAA) and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA, formerly NASDAQ), the largest independent regulator for all securities firms doing business in the United States.

Mr. Bland’s employment litigation practice encompasses the defense of individual and class claims of wage and hour violations, wrongful termination, individual and class claims of discrimination (based on sex, age, race disability, sexual orientation or religion), sexual harassment, accommodation, whistle-blower retaliation, unfair competition, violation of the Lanham Act, invasion of privacy, and defamation.  He also handles administrative proceedings before the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission, the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing and the California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement.  Mr. Bland has an excellent record of success in trial, arbitration and subsequent appeals, as well as resolution by way of summary judgment and other pre-hearing, dispositive motions.

In addition to serving as litigation counsel, Mr. Bland serves as general California employment counsel for several large out-of-state corporations, advising them on employee hiring, retention, evaluation, severance and termination procedures, compliance with California law regarding employee discipline and drug testing. He regulary counsels them on drafting employment agreements and enforceable mandatory arbitration clauses, reductions in force, plant closures, sexual harassment, and internal investigations.

Prior to founding Bland, Navarro & Weber in 1997 with two long-time colleagues, Mr. Bland was with Bronson, Bronson & McKinnon and served as the managing partner of Bronson’s Los Angeles office.
